InstallShield 2010 comes with new platform support including support for Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, MSI 5 and SQL Server 2008 SP1. Additionally the inclusion of creating App-V packages at the same time as creating a standard installation makes it easy to isolate applications for conflict free deployment and easier management (App-V support requires the Virtualization Pack, and only works on Premier and Pro). Additionally, InstallShield 2010 comes with an improved IDE to make it easy to locate the items and settings you need, Unicode support, virtual machine detection and much more.

New Features:
- Support for Microsoft App-V (App-V support requires the Virtualization Pack, and only works on Premier and Pro), Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, MSI 5.
- New SQL Server Support – Execute SQL scripts on SQL Server 2008 SP1 (Premier and Pro only) and on SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 SP1.
- New InstallShield Prerequisites – including Windows Installer 4.5/3.1/3.0/2.0, .NET Framework 3.0 SP1/2.0, Internet Explorer 8, SQL Server 2008 SP1 Express, Visual C++ 2005 SP1, Oracle 11g Instant client v11.1.x and Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008. Additionally it is now possible to add any of the standard InstallShield prerequisites to your InstallScript products (not available in Express).
- Improved IDE – The improved IDE comes with time saving features such as a flattened architecture and new views.
- Virtual Machine detection – stop installers from working on virtual machines (not available in Express).
- String Editor View – Add and edit the (optional) multi-lingual text strings displayed by installer at runtime (not available in Express).
Text File Changes View – Search and replace of text in .txt, .htm, .xml, .config, .ini and so forth at installation runtime (not available in Express).
- IIS Tools for Web – improved tools for creating web sites, applications and virtual directories in IIS on the end user’s system (the full range of features are only available in Premier, although there is limited support in the Express and Pro editions).
- Unicode support – increased Unicode support means improved Multilanguage support (not available in Express).
- Billboard Support – Adobe Flash is now supported on billboards. These are displayed to end users during the installation.
- Support for HTML Controls in InstallScript projects – for example HTML links on the InstallScript dialogs (not available in Express).
